We already have a lot of great things to say about Artificial Intelligence (AI). There are self-drive cars, video games, smart home systems, and the list goes on. However, we must not forget to look into the potential dangers of AI. Therefore, in this article, I will take you through what I believe are some of the scariest dangers of AI.
Invasion of Privacy
Everyone deserves a comfortable level of privacy, regardless of their social status or country of residence. However, due to AI, we should not hope for any privacy in the future, albeit this technology is already moving so fast. Today, anyone already taking advantage of this technology can easily track you as you go about your daily undertakings. Facial recognition is one of the main aspects of this innovation, and it can be used to find you in crowded places. It is even scarier that almost all public cameras are equipped with it.
Job Automation
Job automation is regarded as one of the most immediate concerns of AI. Actually, there is no need to only focus on the jobs that AI will replace, but to what extent. Major disruption is underway for those individuals who work in companies, and their main tasks are mostly repetitive and hence predictable. Sources reveal that at least 36 million individuals have predictable jobs, and this implies that they should worry about AI taking over. In the next few years, at least 70% of such jobs, from retailers to market analysis, will be automated, and the current employees laid off!
Socio-Economic Inequality
Due to AI-driven job loss, there has been an ever-growing socioeconomic inequality. For a long time, proper education accompanied by work, have been the key drivers of social mobility. However, since some jobs are repetitive and predictable, there is a high likelihood of AI taking over. Sources state that those who find themselves in the cold after AI has taken their jobs are less likely to go for higher training compared to those with money and higher-level positions. But this is not a claim that everyone believes.
Autonomous Weapons
Also known as “killer robots,” autonomous weapons can search for their missions and aim independently as per the primary pre-programmed instructions. Sadly, these robots are already being made by nations that are technically advanced. According to an executive leader in the Chinese defense firm, humans will not fight future wars, since autonomous weapons will soon be inevitable. But these weapons come with loads of dangers. Try to ask yourself if they go wild and choose to kill innocent individuals. Worse still, what if they lose the ability to tell their targets from innocent people and end up killing them all? Who will even be responsible if that possible incidence occurs?
As I conclude, there is nothing wrong with creating highly advanced Artificial Intelligence, but the idea can equally be terrible. It is imperative to keep AI narrow and controlled at all times. Crafting highly intelligent AI is not the mistake; the mistake is failing to have in place, a good solution to all possible problems that the technology could cause.
